She could face a tough opponent in third seed Shixian Wang of China only in the semifinals, while she is likely to meet sixth seed Pui Yin Yip of Hong Kong in the quarterfinal.
However, other Indians are in for stiff challenges.
In the men’s singles, Chetan Anand will open against Sri Lankan Niluka Karunaratne and may face sixth-seeded Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand in the next. Delhi Games bronze medallist Parupalli Kashyap will take on fifth seeded Vietnamese Tien Minh Nguyen in the first round.
In the women’s section, CWG gold-winning combine of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa are expected to run into second seeded Chinese pair of Shu Cheng and Yunlei Zhao in the second round. In mixed doubles, Gutta and V. Diju, seeded fourth, have got a bye in the first round.
