Fiba referees’ clinic from today
The Basketball Federation of India’s referee clinic will begin here on Sunday.
The three-day clinic will be conducted by International Basketball Federation (Fiba) sports director Lubomir Kotleba at the Thyagaraj Stadium and is designed for candidates nominated by their respective states to obtain Fiba certification, as well as a refresher course for current Fiba referees to renew their licenses.
The new Fiba referee candidates will be provided a teaching seminar and then must pass a written test of basketball rules.
As part of the clinic, Fiba will also conduct a programme for its commissioners in the administration of competitions, including a written test.
Speaking about the event, BFI chief executive Roopam Sharma said, “The clinic will provide an opportunity to Indian referees to be Fiba certified and enhance their career in international matches.
“Additionally, this will improve the game domestically as Fiba will provide world-class training in the rules and regulations of the game. This moves basketball one step closer to developing the game to where the BFI believes it should be.
“I am grateful to Fiba for conducting the clinic here in Delhi and sharing the experience and expertise.”
