Free air travel for medallists
Even as awards and rewards continue to pour in for the Indian medallists at the London Olympics, a private budget airline has come forward with the idea of free air travel to the six who gave the country reason to cheer at the quadrennial games.
SpiceJet’s decision is an attempt to associate with the Indian achievers of the Games, cheer for their win and to encourage sports.
“I, on the behalf of entire SpiceJet family, congratulate all the Indian medal winners, for their extraordinary achievements. I also praise the effort of all the other athletes who represented India at the London Olympics,” the airlines’ chief executive officer, Neil Mills, said in a statement on Tuesday.
“The nation is proud of their unprecedented performance. It is a matter of great honour for us to be associated with the sportspersons who brought recognition for India at London Olympics 2012,” he added.
Mills also lauded the achievement of all the six medallists.
“The victory of Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Vijay Kumar, M.C. Mary Kom, Saina Nehwal and Gagan Narang proves their hard work and commitment to their respective fields.” he said.
