German high for Joshna
Chennai-based squash player Joshna Chinappa on Sunday lifted the German Ladies’ Open title in Saarbrucken with a convincing 11-6, 11-7, 11-6 win over eighth seed Gaby Schmohl of Switzerland.
The second seed did not drop a set in the entire tournament and kept her flawless game intact in the final of the WISPA World Tour event, making short work of her Swiss opponent in just 23 minutes. Interestingly, for Chinappa this was her longest time on court.
Schmohl was a surprise finalist after knocking out top seed Line Hansen in the semifinals.
The No.1 ranked Indian was never in any trouble, managing to take an early lead in all the three games and maintained a perfect length to trouble her opponent.
On the other hand, Schmohl committed a slew of errors to help Chinappa’s cause.
In the semifinal, Chinappa had defeated French qualifier Melissa Alves, while she routed the challenge of eighth seed Carrie Ramsey of England in the quarterfinal. — Agencies
