Hazra, Mehta reign supreme
The three-day JK Tyre Himalayan Drive 2013 TSD (Time-Speed-Distance) Rally which saw over 50 enthusiasts from across the country participate, concluded at Siliguri’s City Centre on Sunday.
The 400-km long rally which traversed the eastern regions of Sikkim, West Bengal, Darjeeling Hills and the pristine Eastern Himalayas was won by Soham Hazra along with navigator Nirav Mehta.
S.K. Ajgar Ali and his partner M.K. Mohammad finished second while Subir Roy and Amit Saha took the third position. There was some local flavour too as Bibhas Bhattacharya successfully completed the rally.
“The JK Tyre Himalayan Drive 2013 was certainly a challenging event that tested the man and the machine to the maximum. The rally route was breathtaking and I thoroughly enjoyed participating in this event,” said Hazra after his triumph.
It was the first-ever motorsport event organised in the Eastern Himalayan region and was supported by the governments of Sikkim and West Bengal.
Besides getting a chance to experience panoramic views of the snow-capped Eastern Himalayas, including the majestic Kanchenjunga, the third-highest peak in the world, the rally drivers also got an opportunity to get a glimpse of the local culture and lifestyle of Nepali, Bhutia, Lepcha and other people of the region.
