Honour for Bachendri

The first Indian woman to scale Mount Everest, Bachendri Pal, was conferred with the Virangana Lakshmibai Rashtriya Samman by the Madhya Pradesh government in recognition of her contribution towards the upliftment of women in the country.

Bachendri was felicitated at a function in Gwalior earlier this week in the Personal Achievement in Adventure Sports and Women’s Upliftment in the country category.
Minister of culture Lakshmikant Sharma gave away the prize constituted under the aegis of Swaraj Sansthan Sanchalanalay, Bhopal.
This is the first time such an award has been conferred and the selection was made by a panel of the ministry.
