Hyderabad race season to start on Thursday

The Hyderabad Monsoon Races 2013 will commence at the Hyderabad Race Club in Malakpet here on Thursday, July 25.

The monsoon races were earlier scheduled to be held from July 18 to October 21 (Monday) with 28 race days framed for the season. However, due to unavoidable circumstances the races to be held on July 18 (Thursday) and July 19 (Friday) was postponed to July 25 (Thursday) and July 26 (Friday). Further, the races that were originally scheduled to be held on July 25 (Thursday) and July 26 (Friday) will now be held on July 29 (Monday) and August 12 (Monday).
A stake money of `9.45 crores and trophies worth `30,75,000 are on offer in the season. Last year’s monsoon season had a stake money of `8,44,98,000 and trophies worth `29,55,000. In the 2013 season, the race horse owners will also be getting performance incentives when their horses place 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the category races other than the sweepstakes events.
The prestigious races to be held during the Monsoon Races are as follows:
The AP Governors Cup on August 18 (Sunday), The Nizam’s Gold Cup on August 19 (Monday), The Deccan Bookmakers Fillies Championship Stakes on August 25 (Sunday), The Deccan Bookmakers Colts Championship Stakes on September 1 (Sunday), The President of India Gold Cup on September 8 (Sunday), The AP Chief Ministers Cup on September 15 (Sunday), The Melbourne Racing Club Trophy on October 1 (Tuesday), The Vijay Textiles Deccan Derby on October 2 (Wednesday) and The Golconda St.Leger on October 14 (Monday).
The added money for The President of India Gold Cup (Grade I) is `2 millions while the added money for the Deccan Derby (Grade I) is `3 million, of which `1.5 million is being contributed by M/s Vijay Textiles Ltd.

Other key points
The Hyderabad Race Club are in the process of obtaining the building permission from VGTM, Vijayawada, for the construction of off-course tote centre and commercial complex in the HRC plot in Vijayawada.
The HRC have received permission from the government for conducting inter-venue betting on Delhi Races. Necessary changes have been made in the new betting software for conducting IVB on Delhi races. The HRC will be conducting IVB on Delhi races after installation on the new betting terminals.
The HRC are in the process of improving the facilities by providing air-conditioning and replacing the old TVs and LCD TVs at all the Off-Course Tote Centres in a phased manner.
The HRC have spent a sum of `9 crore for upgradation of the betting system. The old terminals will be replaced with the new ones within the next two months.
The HRC have installed two horse walkers for exercising and training of horses at different speed levels. The HRC is the first Turf Authority in India to install the same.
In the Equine Hospital, the HRC have purchased new equipment like Steris Ultrasound Cleaner for cleaning of surgical instruments, video recording for endoscope, Electrical Dental Rasper and Biomass incinerator.
The HRC website (www.hydraces.com) has been upgraded and made more user-friendly.
The HRC are renovating a few blocks of stables to provide better ventilation.
A three-storied Members Lounge in the space between the existing Members Stand and Grand Stand is being constructed to provide more area and better facilities for the Members. This would also relieve the congestion in the existing Members Stand.
n The Owners and Trainers Cafeteria has been renovated with an open area in front for viewing the morning track work and also for watching the races.
The HRC have installed two staring stall gates from Australia, one with 12 stalls and the other with 8 stalls.
The HRC has inducted a fresh batch of 11 candidates for apprentice jockeys for a period of three years.
The Hyderabad Race Club will be hosting and conducting the Invitation Cup Weekend Races on March 1, 2014 (Saturday) and March 2, 2014 (Sunday).
The HRC are trying with the Asian Racing Federation to get the approval for India to host the 36th Asian Racing Conference in December, 2016,/January, 2017.
