IBL has great potential: Saina
World No.4 Saina Nehwal, whose team Hyderabad Hotshots won the inaugural IBL title last week gave a big thumbs-up to the nascent league and said it could only get bigger and better in the coming years.
“The IBL has helped make the game much more popular. With the kind of crowd that came in and the cheering that was there it has the potential to reach the levels of IPL, but it’s too early to compare,” said Saina, who was on promotional visit to the city and inaugurated a Yonex store at the Karnataka Badminton Association along with the legendary Prakash Padukone.
“Thanks to IBL, people know the players as well now,” added Saina. Padukone was also effusive in his praise for the league, “However little I have followed the game it has been great. It’s a new chapter in badminton.
Next year hopefully, I’ll be more involved and if approached I might consider being a part of it.”
