Indian boxers take four golds in Serbia
India’s young boxers capped a succesful day, clinching as many as four golds at the Golden Glove of Vojvodina — an international tournament in Kikinda, Serbia.
A. Silambarasan (52kg) and Manish Solanki (69kg) won gold in the men’s section while Rajesh Kumari (48kg) and Chanda Udanshive (51kg) triumphed in the women’s category as India finished with nine medals.
Silambarasan was declared the best fighter of the tournament.
Youth World Championships bronze medal winner Lalitha Prasad (49kg) and reigning national champion Neeraj Parashar (64kg) had to be content with silver medals after losing their respective title bouts.
Marthamma Sattivada (64kg), Diksha (91kg) and Pema Chotan (+91kg) were the other silver medallists.
Silambarasan, a silver medallist at the 2012 Aglorav Cup, edged past Scotsman Stephen Boyle in the flyweight final while welter weight boxer Solanki beat local lad Stanojevic Lazar for his gold.
Rajesh’s gold in the light fly weight division came with her win over Bulgarian Valentina Poptoleva and Chanda upset Bulgarian Marina Buyuklieva in the fly weight final.
