IOA delegates gear up for lausanne meet
A group of Indian Olympic Association delegates will leave for Lausanne on Monday night for a crucial meeting with the International Olympic Committee on Wednesday hoping to start the process of getting the ban on India lifted.
Though IOA acting president V.K. Malhotra and IOC member in India, Randhir Singh, have decided to boycott the meeting, IOA delegates are hopeful that they will be able to present a watertight case to get the ban lifted.
The meeting will also be attended by sports minister Jitendra Singh, sports secretary P.K. Deb, Beijing Olympics gold-medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra and Olympian sailor Malav Shroff. Tarlochan Singh, S. Reghunathan and N. Ramachandran will leave for Lausanne on Monday night, while Hockey India’s Narinder Batra and R.K. Anand are already there.
IOA to have Hony Chairman’s post?
The IOA soon may have a temporary post of honourary chairman, appointed by the IOA president and whose role would be only advisory in nature. This was discussed at a meeting which deliberated on the proposed amendments to the IOA’s constitution.
The meeting held on April 22 between the sports ministry and suspended IOA officials, was held under the chairmanship of sports secretary Deb .
