Jasvir continues to hold sway

Jasvir Singh of Army Yachting Node, Mumbai, continued his impressive run at the Laser National Sailing Championship by winning one and finising third-best in the other two races held at the Hussainsagar lake in Hyderabad on Friday.

In Race Four of the Laser Standard class, B.K. Rout of EME Sailing Association took an early lead, which he maintained till the end, leaving Dharmender Singh of AYN second. Jasvir, who had two wins and a runner-up performance on Day One, came third to keep himself ahead of the other title contenders.
In Race Two, Jasvir caught a favourable wind early on to take a comfortable lead. Though M. Naveen Kumar of AYN tried to catch up on the leader, Jasvir’s expertise and know-how took him past the finish line with ease. Naveen later won Race Six to improve his overall tally. Rout finished second while Jasvir came third.
In the 4.7 class, Prince Noble surged to the top of the points table with two wins and a third place finish. While Prince won Race Five and Six, Ravindhar M. of TNSA clinched Race Four. Interestingly, Vir Menon, who dominated races on Day One, fell behind by a huge margin, with a DNF, a third-place and a runner-up finish.
The morning wind of around 12 to 15 knots, which occasionally gusted to 20 knots, clearly did not suit Vir.
Meanwhile, the foul weather took toll on Race Six of Radial class. With the wind pattern altering quite frequently and the cloud build-up reducing visibility, the organisers decided to postpone the sixth race by a day.
Earlier, Sharif Khan of AYN had won Race Four unchallenged. However, in Race Five, Sharif after taking a seemingly unassailable lead, was dealt with a blow as his sail got torn. Gaurav Randhawa took advantage of Sharif’s misfortune to win the race.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
