Jindal Steel win in Indian Masters
Jindal Steel & Power pipped SSC-HPRC by a half goal, winning 6-5½ on the second day of the Yes Bank Indian Masters polo tournament in the capital on Thursday. SSC-HPRC began half a goal ahead on handicap.
Tom de Bruin stood out for Jindal Steel & Power, scoring four of their six goals, while Naveen Jindal chipped in with a brilliant strike to seal his team’s win.
Dhruvpal Godara of SSC-HPRC continued his good form, scoring thrice.
On Friday, Jindal Steel & Power meet Cavalry, while Sahara Warriors take on IPG Young India at the Army Equestrian Centre.
The tournament, known as one of the two Grand Slams of Indian polo, is being contested by five high goal squads — playing for the first time — Sahara Warriors led by Adhiraj Singh, Jindal Steel & Power captained by Naveen Jindal, 61st Cavalry, SSC-HPRC winners of the 2012 Indian Open and the IPG Young Indian.
The tournament is being played on a half league basis. If two teams are tied on the same points, who-beat-who rules will apply to decide the winner.
