Jwala’s back after break
Out of action for the past few months, Jwala Gutta is all set to mark her return to the game at the All England Championships, which she describes as a ‘difficult’ tournament to play in but the doubles specialist wants to stay positive as she feels she has nothing more to prove to anyone.
“It’s always difficult to make a comeback after a long break, so I am not expecting too much from myself at the moment. I am taking it easy,” Jwala was quoted as saying.
Jwala, who won the Commonwealth Games doubles gold with Ashwini Ponnappa and followed it up with a bronze at the 2011 World Championships with the same partner, had taken a break after the London Olympics.
For the last two months, she has been working out to get back in shape for the All England Championships, which begins in Birmingham on Tuesday.
“I have been training for the tournament for past few months. I even missed the German Open but its okay. The mixed doubles draw (at the All England Championship) is good. We should win the first two rounds, so I am positive.
“Moreover, I don’t have to prove anything to anyone after a long and successful career. I will look to just play for myself,” said Jwala, who along with V. Diju will start her mixed doubles campaign against Peter Kaesbauer and Isabel Herttrich in the first round.
Jwala was to pair up with 20-year-old Prajakta Sawant, who has been denied a visa by the host country for the event. But Jwala has the experienced Diju in the mixed doubles.
