Kannur duo Mariya Jolly and Treesa Jolly defeated Varsha Venketesh and Smrithi Anil of Palakkad 21-16, 21-18 to lift the Under-13 doubles category title in the tenth All-Kerala Junior Badminton ranking tournament held in Kozhikode on Saturday.

Winning the first set easily, Mariya and Treesa faced tough resistance from Varsha and Smrithi in the second set. However, the two girls in a late surge won the second set and sealed the match and title in style.

In the under-13 boys double, S. Ameresh & Jacob Thomas, and Shyam Prasad & Shankar Prasad reached the semifinals after impressive victories.

It was a cakewalk for Ameresh and Jacob Thomas as they defeated Vishnu Dharmendra and Vysnav Dharmendra 21-14, 21-16 in straight sets in the quarterfinal.

In another quarterfinal match Vipin Das and Mirsha M. Razak put out a brave fight but was ousted from the tourney by the brilliance of the duo Shyam Prasad and Shankar Prasad 25-23, 22-24, 21,11.

Vipin and Razak pair bounced back from a narrow first set defeat 25-23 and claimed the second set 22-24 in style.

However, it was an easy affair for Prasad duo to defeat worn out Vipin and Razak, 21-11 in the last set to play in the last four.

In the under-19 boys singles, top seeds had an easy outing as top three players Pranav Satheesh, Shyam Prasad and Arun George respectively entered the last 16.

As Pranav and Arun George easily secured their positions in quarterfinal by winning straight sets, Shyam Prasad faced a little resistance from Febin Dileep.

After winning first set Shyam Prasad 21-11 faced a setback in the second set as Febin grabbed it 16-21. However, in the third set Shyam outplayed his counterpart 21-14 to win the match and enter quarterfinals.

The other boys who reached the quarterfinals are Vishnu Rajendran, Mohammed Munaver, Arjun M.R., Ashwin Paul and Sharon Raphel.

Earlier, Mehreen Riza of Thiruvananthapuram clinched the Under-11 girls singles title beating Treesa Jolly 21-7, 21-23, 21-7 of Ernakulam in the final.
