Korea spikers thrash India in preliminary
Guangzhou, Nov. 15: India suffered a 0-3 thrashing at the hands of formidable South Korea in their second preliminary round match of the men’s volleyball Group B league competition in the Asian Games here on Monday.
India, who began their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Kazakhstan, lost 19-25, 20-25, 19-25 in a contest that lasted more than an hour.
India had beaten the same opponents 3-2 during this year’s continental championship in Iran, but they could not repeat the show as Korean spikers Park Chul Woo and Moon Sung Min crashed through their net blocks from all angles to help their team avenge their defeat at the Asian championships.
India now need to defeat Vietnam on Tuesday to progress in the tournament.
The Indian players did level to stay with their rivals till 12-all in the opening set after Sanjay Banwari hit a winning spike while Sube Singh blocked well to tie the scores.
But Korea, with Park in his elements, eventually regained the momentum and won it in 22 minutes.
India’s last preliminary match against North Korea is on November 18.
