Odisha boys, MPHA girls emerge champions
Odisha defeated Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy (MPHA) 5-1 in the summit clash to emerge winners in the boys category of the second Hockey India Sub-Junior Boys and Girls National Championship here today.
Anand Lakra (8th minute), Peophill Kujur (10th minute), Nilam Sanjeer (16th minute) and Ashok Lakra (34th minute) scored as Odisha wwnt into the breather with a comfitable 4-0 lead.
MPHA managed to reduce the margin in the second half through a field goal from Ravi in the 47th minute, but Lakra scored his second of the day in the 62nd minute to hand Odisha an easy win.
Earlier, Punjab boys defeated SAI Bhopal 2-1 to finish third.
Meanwhile in the girls competition, MPHA beat hosts Haryana 3-1 to claim the crown.
Nusrat Khatoon (18th minute), Shikha Sharma (19th minute) and Priyanka Wankhede (66th minute) were the goal scorers, while Narinder Kaur (30th minute) scored the lone goal for Haryana.
In the third-fourth place play-off match, Jharkhand girls defeated Mizoram 4-3.
