Aditya Patel

The 23-year old Aditya Patel has a penchant for speed. Come Saturday, the Chennai lad will be hoping for a “great run” at the Buddh International Circuit when he, along with three other Indians, will compete in Round Five of the JK Racing Asia Series, a support race for the Indian Grand Prix.

A young talent, Patel created history by becoming the first Indian driver to shine at the gruelling 24-hour Nurburgring race earlier this year.
Patel comes from a family of racers and athletes and is keen to make his mark in the world of motorsport. An economics student, Patel says “he does not even know how to use an ATM, but can cook amazing delicacies”. A look into his interests other than racing:
Earliest sporting memory: Falling down on my face in a running race.

Sports played: Tennis and swimming.

Most memorable sporting moment: Winning at Nurburgring.

Worst sporting moment: Nothing so far, thankfully

Questions most asked by the public/press: When did you start racing?

Sporting heroes: Ayrton Senna, Michael Jordan, Roger Federer, Fernando Alonso.
Favourite venues: Nurburgring and Macau.

Other sport you would pay the most to see: Tennis

Biggest regret: Not knowing how to use an ATM.

Who would you most like to invite to dinner and why? Mila Kunis (American actor), because she’s Mila Kunis!

Person you learnt most from: My parents.

How will you like to be remembered? A person who never gave up.

Other interests in your life: Cooking.

What do you never leave home without? My house keys.

A habit you wish to get rid of: You wouldn’t want to know!

Favourite actors: Rajnikanth, Rowan Atkinson

Any superstition? I eat only a particular cereal before a race.

Where do you see yourself in five years? In something very fast.

What’s the one thing that frightens you most? Aircraft turbulence.

What if not a race driver? Culinary mastermind.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
