Sahara Warriors win title
Sahara Warriors beat Jindal Steel & Power 10-9 in the final of the Yes Bank Indian Masters polo tournament 2012 at the Jaipur grounds in the capital on Sunday.
Samir Suhag shone for the winners, scoring four goals, while Max Charlton had three. Akhil Sirohi (two) and Adhiraj Singh (one) were the other scorers.
For Jindal Steel & Power, Simran Shergill slammed in five goals, while Tom De Bruin and Angad Kalaan scored three and one, respectively.
The tournament is one of the two ‘Grand-Slams’ of Indian polo along with the Indian Open, played at the level of 14 goals.
The tournament was contested by five high goal squads — playing for the first time — Sahara Warriors, Jindal Steel & Power captained by Naveen Jindal, 61st Cavalry, SSC-HPRC, winners of the 2012 Indian Open, and the IPG Young India.
Top names like Jindal, Adhiraj, Manupal Godara, Suhag, Angad Kalaan, England’s Charlton, De Bruin of South Africa, Navjit Sandhu, Ravi Rathore, Shergill, Abhimanyu Pathak and Dhruvpal Godara were all seen in action.
