Sahgal, Jindal in polo final

Action in the Equisport Delhi Spring Polo Season 2013 at the Army Equestrian Centre picked up in the form of the Sanawar SMS Gold Vase (eight-goal) tournament with the finalists spotted on Saturday.

Going through to the final were Jindal Steel & Power, who beat Shanti Farm 9-7, and Sahgal Stud, 8 ½ goals to 8 winners over Pirmal.
In Saturday’s semi-finals, Jindal Power & Steel were steered home by four goals each from Max Charlton and Simran Shergill, Navin Jindal adding one. For Shanti Farm, goals came from Angad Kalaan (3), Manupal Godara (2) and Navin Khanna (2).
In the second semi-final, starting with 1½ goals on handicap, Sahgal Stud saw Gaurav Sahgal in sparkling form with five strikes, while Siddhant Sharma and Kuldeep Rathore got one apiece.
For the losing side, Samir Suhag scored four goals, Dhruvpal Godara three and Harshwardhan Piramal rounded off the scoring.
Eight teams entered the tournament, of whom NCC, Cavalry, PBG and ASC-RVC were eliminated early.
In the first game, Jindal Steel & Power beat NCC 9 goals to 7, Piramal eliminated Cavalry 10-9, Sahgal Stud edged out PBG by 6 ½ goals to 6 and Shanti Farm got past RVC-ASC 7 goals to 5 ½.
Jindal Steel & Power’s goals came in the form of triple strikes by Jindal, Charlton and Shergill, while for NCC, Vishal Singh was on target five times. He was backed up by a brace from Akhil Sirohi.
In the high-scoring Piramal-Cavalry encounter, the winners were powered by six strikes off the stick of Suhag with support from Dhruvpal Godara scored (3) and Piramal.
Navjit Sandhu did the star turn for Cavalry with six goals of his own besides which goals came from Vishal Chauhan (2) and Samir Chaudhary.
Even closer was the Sahgal Stud-PBG game, that was decided on handicap, the winners starting with a1½-goal advantage.
Sahgal got four and Salim Azmi added the other, while for PBG, scorers were Tarun Sirohi (3), Ravi Rathore (2) and Tejvir Singh Mundi.
Shanti Farm then got pas RVC-ASC with goals from a triple from Manupal Godara, and Angad Kalaan and Navin Khanna (2 each).
