SAI to set up centre in Rohtak
The government has approved of setting up a Sports Authority of India centre in Rohtak district of Haryana. The 59th of its kind in the country, the training centre will be at Meham in Rohtak.
The planned state-of-the-centre will start with the two most popular sports in the state — boxing and wrestling — and will be later upgraded for other sports as well. The sports ministry has agreed in principle acting on the request of Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda, sports minister Ajay Maken told the media.
Gopal Krishan, secretary and director general, SAI, said that the director in-charge of SAI Northern Centre will visit Meham and submit a detailed report on operationalisation of the centre in near future.
Hooda later thanked Maken for the approval and said that it was a recognition of the stupendous achievements by the athletes from the state.
