SAI, St Joseph’s triumph in basketball

The girls of SAI Thalassery and boys of St. Joseph’s Pulinkunnu had the final laugh at the 11th all Kerala Viswajyothi Basketball Tournament in Angamaly.

In a thrilling final, Sohul K. Lal and junior international Sreerag N. Nair guided St. Joseph’s to a 64-57 win over St. Ephrem’s Mannanam.

Ajith P. Thomas shot 21 points for St. Ephrem’s but could only find his side giving in to the experience of St. Joseph’s.

Meanwhile, the girls’ final match was controlled by the SAI Thalassery team with Aswathy S. Thampy top scoring 32 and Minnu George getting 19 points in a 75-59 victory. Arathy Vimal scored 31 points to lead the Kollam team while Nisha Thomas had 10.

Sohul, who played a defining role in the final for St. Joseph’s and SAI’s top scorer Aswathy were adjudged the best players of the tournament.

The Trophies and cash awards were presented by Olympian M. D. Valsamma, senior international Eudric Pereira, Dhanapalan M. P. and Jose Thettayil MLA.
