Sanju expects to be back with KKR
Eighteen-year-old Sanju V. Samson had a lot to cheer up in the last season. After cracking a double century in the Cooch Behar Trophy, he had a busy schedule with IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
He was the only player from Kerala to be part of a pre-season camp of KKR held in Kolkata. The camp consisted of 25 players from all over India.
“It was a performance evaluation camp. I had participated in the KKR camp for the past three years. However, this year it was really impressive,” said Sanju V. Samson.
“I had a talk with KKR CEO and he is very much impressed with me. I may be able to attend the next camp of KKR along with their main team. Several eminent players who had played for India and in Ranji teams were present in the camp,” said the right-hand batsman.
Last year, Sanju was part of the KKR B team that had toured Sri Lanka. “Though I did not get much batting opportunity, I was able to perform well in the only match I got.
I scored 48 runs and contributed to a 100-run partnership when the team were in peril,” he said. David Whatmore was the coach of the team during the trip.
“The experience I received so far from KKR camps is great. I learned lot about fielding and batting from the camps. Apart from these, a good exposure to different players and their style will always help us to improve more,” he said.
Sanju is expecting a call from KKR next camp. “During practice session, KKR assistant coach Vijay Dhaiya was impressive about me. It seems they will call me for the next camp also with the main players of KKR,” he said.
With good performance in Cooch Behar Trophy, he is also expecting a call from the Kerala one-day team.
“If everything goes well, then the next season of mine will also be fine. Right now, I have no information about the KKR B team camp. However, this time the talk with CEO may yield some result,” he
