India’s top cueists, including veterans Geet Sethi and Alok Kumar, are expected to take part in the Mukesh Rehani Memorial Snooker tournament to be played from August 21 to 26 in the capital.

Two-time Asian champion Yasin Merchant, Rafat Habib, Sourav Kothari and Manan Chandra would be among other cueists vying for the top honours at the six-day long event, which will carry a total prize money of Rs 1,50,000.
The tournament will be played at the Jhankar Banquet Garden at Preet Vihar and will be organised by the Delhi Billiards and Snooker Association under the auspices of the Billiards and Snooker Federation of India.
“The championship is likely to see the participation of all the top cueists of the country. Players like Geet, Alok, Brijesh Dhamani, Manan and many others are expected to take part in the meet,” a BSFI official said.
The entries in this national event will be entertained by the BSFI, through respective state associations. The entry for the event closes on August 14.
“It’s an open tournament with an entry fee of Rs 1,000. We expect more than 100 entries for the meet. Entry form must be submitted to joint secretary of DBSA Amarjeet Singh,” he said.
National pool coach Rehani was a former India’s number two billiards player.
He died of a massive heart attack last year.
Rehani represented India at the 2002 Busan Asian Games and played five years of pro billiards. He was the first Indian to reach the round of 16 at Cardiff, UK in the 2004 world pool championship.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
