Sindhu, Maneesha storm into last 16

Hyderabad’s P.V. Sindhu breezed past Kalyani Limaye of Maharashtra 21-7, 21-2 to advance to the next round of the under-19 girls’ event during the 35th Junior National Badminton Championships being held in Yanam.

K. Maneesha of Andhra Pradesh too moved ahead defeating Anjali Rawat of Gujarat 21-9, 21-13. However, it was curtains for statemates G. Ruthvika Shivani, D. Sudha Kalyani and J. V. Samhitha.

Shivani went down to Elsa Daya Jacob of Kerala 16-21, 16-21. While Rituparna Das of West Bengal defeated Sudha 21-10, 21-14, Sheshadri Sanyal got the better of Samhitha 18-21, 21-10, 21-17.

In the boys’ singles, B. Sai Praneeth eased past statemate G. Saharsh Reddy 21-7, 21-9. Praneeth then paired up with H.S. Prannoy in the boys’ doubles to oust Gandhar Marathe and Ishaan Talwalkar of Maharashtra 21-14, 21-16.
Others who advanced to the next stage in the singles event are C. Rohit Yadav, P. Vikas Harsha and K. Srikanth.
Continuing his good run after the sub-junior nationals in Hyderabad last month, Rohit packed off Chandrajit Jha of 21-10, 21-16.
In another match, after an easy first game 21-12, Harsha fought tooth and nail to prevail over C. Aswin of Tamil Nadu in the next game 25-23. Srikanth had it easy over Abhinav Manota of Punjab 21-14, 21-17.
