Sindhu’s day out with kids
Asian junior champion P.V. Sindhu held special sessions for budding shuttlers, in a clinic in Faribadad on Saturday. A joint initiative by Manav Rachna Sports Academy and Yonex-Sunrise, the day-long event aimed at training the aspiring players at the academy.
Several youngsters took part in the clinic, which was a rare opportunity for them to rub shoulders with the teen sensation and take home valuable guidance.
The 17-year-old Sindhu admitted that she was disappointed at missing out on an Olympic berth but wished the Indian contingent luck for the quadrennial event.
Sindhu, who is only the second player after Prakash Padukone to hold the junior and national singles crown at the same time, gave tips to the 60-odd players, under the supervision of former junior national coach Sanjeev Sachdeva.
Explaining the technicalities of the game and briefing them about real life pressures, Sindhu urged the children to focus on hard work and discipline. She encouraged them to dream big as she had at their age. Sindhu also played matches with 15 children, and explained them the nuances of the game.
Speaking about her career, Sindhu said, “My aim was to break into the world top-10 at the earliest. I am playing in the Super Series circuit since last year and my game has improved a lot. It is important how one adapts and changes the game as per the requirement.”
In the past, clinics have been conducted at the academy by the likes of Peter Karlsson, Gagan Narang and Kapil Dev.
