State wushu c’ship gets under way
The 11th Delhi state wushu championship was declared open at the Talkatora Stadium in the capital on Friday. The three-day event is being organised by the Delhi Amateur Wushu Association, and will see participation from over 30 teams and 600 players in the senior, junior and sub-junior categories this year.
Besides some reputed clubs from the capital, participating teams also include CRPF, ITBP, Air Force, STC and the Sports Authority of India.
The inaugural programme included a wushu demonstration by national level players and a special cultural programme prepared and showcased by the children of various Delhi schools.
Speaking on the occasion, Delhi Amateur Wushu Association president Dr Prabhat said that he was hopeful of a positive response to the tournament. He also praised the Delhi players for their recent show and shared the plans to inviting coaches from China to train them.
The event will witness competitions in both the sanshou and taolu categories. While in the taolu category, the players will show routines such as nanquan (bare hand), qiangshu (spear), tai chi quan and daoshu (broad sword), the sanshou category will have a total of 11 weight categories across all age groups.
