Strong field for Nat’l TT

National champions Anthony Amalraj and Poulomi Ghatak will lead a star-studded field at the national ranking table tennis championships (central zone), that will begin in Jodhpur from Sunday.

The six-day event, to be held in the fort city at the Gaushala Indoor Stadium, will see participation from over 550 top paddlers across the country.
Stars like Harmeet Desai and Soumyajit Ghosh, who skipped the last zonal in Bengaluru, will also be in action, after finishing their engagements in Sweden.
Besides, the likes of Soumyadeep Roy, Sanil Shetty, G. Sathiyan and Sourav Saha will add teeth to the men’s event while K. Shamini, Ankita Das, Divya Deshpande will be the main attraction in the women’s section.
However, Achanta Sharath Kamal — who won the men’s title in Bengaluru recently — will be among the top names to miss out the event, as he has returned to Germany to resume his European circuit tournaments.
The championships, carrying a total prize money of `5.67 lakh, with the winner in the men’s singles getting `66,000 and the women’s champion taking home `55,000. The event will be of significance for all participants, specially the juniors, whose performance will be watched and assessed by the national selectors as they look to pick probables for the world junior championships, to be held in Hyderabad later this year.
The finals in the sub-junior and the cadet categories are scheduled for Monday, while the finals of the junior events will be held on Thursday.
The concluding day on Friday will witness the finals in the men’s, women’s, and the youth sections.
