Tiger turns to Bo for inspiration

Tiger Woods looked for inspiration in the unlikely form of Bo Van Pelt Saturday after slipping off the pace at the CIMB Classic in Malaysia.

Woods, winner of 74 tournaments including 14 Majors, admitted he would have to shoot something in the order of Van Pelt's stunning 62 if he was to win from five shots back on the last day.

Van Pelt looked set for a wondrous 59 at Kuala Lumpur's par-71 Mines Resort and Golf Club, but he just missed an eagle putt on 17 and double-bogeyed the last to share the lead with Robert Garrigus on 16-under-par 197.

Meanwhile Woods endured a calamitous back nine, including a watery double-bogey on the par-three 14th, to finish with 69, 11-under for the tournament.

"I'm going to have to shoot a low one tomorrow. Something similar to what Bo did today," said Woods.

"The problem with being this far back, I'm going to need help. A great round tomorrow might not win it, that's the only problem. But I've got to put up a great round anyways."

Despite the large galleries following Woods, last year's winner Van Pelt -- defending a title for the first time -- was the man to watch as he put together five birdies around the turn and went 11-under through 17 holes.

As expectation built for his 12th birdie of the day, which would have given him the first 59 in a PGA-sanctioned event since 2010, the 37-year-old bunkered at the last green and three-putted in an anti-climactic finish.

However, the round continued a fine run of form for Van Pelt, who won in Perth last week and has had a run of top-10 placing this year.

"I think I'm like every guy in the field. You show up to a tournament and you try to win," he said.

"Obviously, last week has nothing to do with this week. That's the thing you have to remind yourself of tomorrow's a new day. Doesn't matter what I did today.

"It's my job to go out there and tell the golf ball to do the right stuff. If I do that, then I'll shoot a decent score. If I don't, I won't play very well."
