Top seeds sail into Round 2
Seeded players posted convincing wins in the opening round of the National Under-11 Open and girls chess championships 2013 that got under way in the capital on Monday.
A total of 181 players in the Open and 101 in the girls section from 26 states are participating in the championship.
In the Open section, top seed Ram Aravind of Tamil Nadu began his campaign with an easy outing over team mate Dharshan P., while second seed Saurabh Anand of Bihar also started with a bang as he overcame Assam’s Debanga Kalita.
In the girls’ category, top seed Priyanka Nutakki of Andhra Pradesh overpowered her Delhi rival Kaamyaa Negi in their first round encounter.
Second seed and local hope Vantika Agrawal began on a winning note with comfortable victory over team mate Shruti Kakar.
