Vishnu ends Akhil’s domination
Chennai driver Vishnu Prasad ruled the track at the Kari Motor Speedway on Saturday as he racked up three podium finishes in the second round of the JK Tyre Racing India series — twice on the top step and once for third place.
While Vishnu’s win in the FB02 category signalled the end of Akhil Khuslani’s domination, his storming drive in the Formula LGB 4 under treacherous wet conditions earned him hero status.
Hyderabad youngster Akhil had won all the three races in last month’s Round 1 and was touted to be the man to beat this weekend. But he qualified a disappointing sixth out of 10 BMW-powered cars.
In the 15-lap race, Akhil, however, had a good start only to be bogged down by an issue in the gearbox. With Akhil struggling in the midfield, Vishnu pulled away from the rest of the pack for a comfortable win.
Arjun Maini, a 16-year-old from Bengaluru, continued his impressive run to finish second, followed by Chittesh Mandody. Akhil, who had a collision with Rabindra, recovered to finish fourth.
