Westwood eyes top spot in home tourney

England’s Lee Westwood was bidding to make it a homecoming to remember as the final round of the European PGA Championship got under way here at Wentworth on Sunday.
The 40-year old, who recently moved to the United States, was in the final group with Spain’s Alejandro Canizares who held a one-shot lead over the Englishman on nine-under par.
Canizares, son of former Ryder Cup player Jose Maria, was bidding for only second win as a professional after claiming the 2006 Russian Open, whereas Westwood has 22 victories on the European Tour alone and 40 worldwide.
Italy’s Matteo Manassero and Scotland’s Marc Warren were two shots adrift of the lead with Ireland’s Shane Lowry a further stroke back.
Sergio Garcia who has been at the centre of a racism row that overshadowed the start of the tournament was in a group of players on five-under par and still well in contention. Sweden’s Niclas Fasth was the first to make a run at the leaders when he had four birdies in succession.

Blues lose in Benitez’s last game
New York, May 26: Far away from the jeering supporters at London’s Stamford Bridge, Rafa Benitez completed his brief but productive stint at Chelsea with a 3-5 loss to Manchester City in a friendly on Saturday night.
In a wide-open match largely devoid of tough tackles and less physical than many training sessions, Samir Nasri scored twice for City and Ramires had two goals for Chelsea.
Booed by fans distrusting him following his tenure at Liverpool, Benitez never settled in after he was hired on a seven-month contract in November to replace Roberto Di Matteo, who was sacked six months after leading Chelsea to its first Champions League title. Still, Benitez did manage to lead Chelsea to the Europa League. Outgoing Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho is expected to return to Chelsea for a second stint as manager next season. — ap

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
