Willing to start academy in Hyderabad: Vijender
Ace pugilist Vijender Singh said on Tuesday that he was open to the idea of setting up a boxing academy in Andhra Pradesh if the State government comes forward and helps him.
The 2008 Beijing Games bronze medallist, who was here in connection with the 59th Senior National men’s boxing championship, said that the city has been lucky for him as he had won many medals here, including a silver at the Afro-Asian Games held in 2003.
“Andhra Pradesh has enough boxing talent. What is lacking is the infrastructure to make use of the talent,” said Vijender.
“If the AP government is willing to help me, I am open to the idea of setting up an academy in Hyderabad,” said the Bhiwani boxer.
The star boxer was also felicitated during the occasion for his achievements in the sport.
