Women achievers score high
Two women, both achievers in their own way, won the Stock Amateur Category in the recent concluded 14th Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya. Driver Gauri Gupta, a fashion designer from Bhopal and the navigator Nidhi Sharma, a young entrepreneur from Shimla participated in the Adventure category of the rally.
This category follows the Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) format. Gauri took to rallying in 2010 and has been into sports since childhood.
“When I got married and had kids, I lost myself. As my kids grew up and were about to move out, I had a feeling that I need a passion to get going in life.”
This is when Gauri discovered the TSD format in motorsport rallying through a friend.
“I liked the concept of TSD. This was not rash or fast driving, but invovlved skill to make it to the finish line,” said Gauri. She participated in a women’s rally, and since then there has been no looking back. She has driven in 13 motorsport events since 2010 including twice in the Raid-de-Himalaya, twice in the Desert Storm, and once in the J&K Bank Mughal Rally.
Gauri believes that there is no limit if you decide to dream, and work hard to fulfil it. “We have one life. And we have all the right to fulfil our desires in that single lifetime,” she adds.
Nidhi, on the other hand, is just 24 and owns six institutes of IT education and this was her first brush with the world of motorsports.
