Women grapplers grab bronze brace at Asians
Indian women grapplers followed their male counterparts’ fine show with Alka Tomar and Suman Kundu winning a bronze each on the third day of the senior Asian wrestling championships here on Friday.
Asian Games medallist Alka Tomar (59kg) and Suman Kundu (63kg) won a bronze each in the Repechage round after failing to reach the finals. Tomar beat Miruert Dynbayeva of Kazakhstan 3-3, 2-1 in Freestyle Repechage. Later, Kundu got the better of Olga Kalinina of Kazakhstan in 63kg Repechage round.
Other Indians, however, lost in their respective rounds. Nirmala Devi went down to Sim-Hyang So of People’s Republic of Korea in the 48kg category, while in the 51kg category Japan’s Hiromi Sakurai defeated Babita Kumari.
