Kahaani mein delay for Vidya
The year, which began with No One Killed Jessica, ended with The Dirty Picture, and catapulted Vidya Balan directly to the top rung. She very nearly had a hat-trick of superhits, had it not been for a last minute decision by the makers of Kahaani to delay their film.
The Sujoy Ghosh film, which has Vidya playing a pregnant woman in search of her husband, will now release in March, also giving Vidya some much needed rest. “Kahaani arriving late will let Vidya relax for a while,” says a friend of the actress. “She really needs a break, as moving from The Dirty Picture to Kahaani in four weeks would have been virtually inhuman for her. Apart from the toll it would take on her health, the audience would also not want to see her in such a diametrically opposite role so soon.”
Confirming the news, Vidya says, “Thank goodness it’s releasing only in March. The movie’s my baby, and releasing it now would have made it premature. Neither Sujoy nor I wanted that.”
Meanwhile, even though Vidya has been inundated with offers, especially in last few weeks, she isn’t picking up anything in haste. “No, I haven’t signed any film so far. When I am shooting for a film, I don’t go through narrations or script reading. All of 2011 went into filming and I just didn’t get time to go through any scripts. I have just started doing that a week ago,” she says.
