Sizzling haute
The setting was perfect and the night young when couturier Ritu Kumar showcased her couture show “Panchvastra” at the Aman hotel in the city. The show was conceptualised by Ritu’s son and associate Amrish Kumar and choreographer Vidyun Singh.
Before the models could sashay down the ramp in signature Ritu Kumar ensembles, artistes from Punjab performed various theatrical sequences for the show, which was segmented into five divisions. The idea was to portray the different moods of five strong women — Ganga, Draupadi, Kunti, Amba and Gandhari — through music, art and fashion.
Talking about the juxtapositioning, Ritu said, “I wanted to represent an intrinsic Indian quality through this collection and the effect would not have been impactful without Neelam Mansingh, who orchestrated the performance,” says Ritu.
Amrish, who helped Ritu put together the spectacular presentation, said, “Panchavastra celebrates India’s oldest and richest crafts researched over the last 45 years. The clothes are contemporary yet exude a very traditional and vintage feel.”
Spotted enjoying Delhi’s retreating winter were the famous faces from the capital as well as Mumbai. Talks about the upcoming fashion week emanated from all corners.
Poonam Bhagat, who had come with a friend from Mumbai said, “I am happy that winter has stayed for some time. I love this season. You can pile on layers and still look pretty.”
