Cashing in on IP strategies

The possibilities are endless for Swapna Sundar, CEO of IP Dome, who started an IP (Intellectual Property) Strategy Advisor start up in Chennai, which helps one in safeguarding the fruits of their grey matter. The former patent attorney helps individuals and companies not only identify and protect their intellectual creations but also

monetises their IP to their increase profitability. “This business enterprise operates at ‘the intersection of the law, the lab and the market’. We bring our competencies in the three areas to benefit the client’s IP strengths,” says Swapna who tied up with a business consultant and industrialist, Raghavendra Ravi, to bring this novel venture to light.
“Our business relies on creative engineering of the business to solve issues or satisfy needs of customers and other stake-holders. We analyse the company to identify its deficits — legal, creative, IP-related, regulatory requirements etc. and provide strategies that would put the company on the growth curve,” adds the enthusiastic IP strategist.
Apart from individuals, SMEs and mid-size companies she also hopes to provide services to other entrepreneurs. Swapna says, “Start-ups often fail to see that they are sitting on great IP opportunity. Even if they do discover that they have commercially potent IP, they fail to exploit the IP appropriately.”
And it’s team spirit and networking which keeps this young CEO going. She says, “As an entrepreneur you should always network, collaborate and aspire to give value in every interaction generously. Technology is such a boon, we must use it as much as possible to automate our processes.”
Trust is another important criteria for her. “I’ve the vision and leadership and I trust my team to do their job well,” concludes Swapna.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
