A woman was drugged and raped by a male friend during a visit to Durga Puja on Wednesday night.
The woman, aged 32, was married. She had asked her friend to accompany her to Durga Puja celebration as her husband was away to Himachal Pradesh.
The incident was reported from Rohini, Sector 24, late on Wednesday night. The victim, who belongs to Panipat in Haryana, was living with her husband, a businessman, in Rohini.
She invited one of her friends Sanju, 30, on Wednesday evening to visit Durga Puja celebrations in nearby areas along with her.
Sanju picked up the victim from her residence in his car and later allegedly offered her a cold drink laced with sedative tablets making her semi-conscious.
He took her to an isolated place in Rohini and allegedly raped her and later dumped her in a secluded place in Peeragarhi.
“A passer-by, who saw the woman in a very semi-naked state, informed the police. She was taken to the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital,” a senior police official said.
She told the police about the incident when she regained consciousness.
A medical examination confirmed rape and a case was registered. Sanju could not be located at his residence and is absconding.
