The Opposition plans to keep the government on tenterhooks by moving a no-confidence motion against it during the coming Winter Session of Parliament, beginning on November 22, in order to expose the “fence-sitters” ahead of next year’s crucial Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
The session is due to end December 21, parliamentary sources said here Monday. The SP (22 MPs in the LS) and Mayawati’s BSP (21 MPs) have been backing the government unconditionally despite the fact that they are the Congress’ main targets in the UP polls. On the other hand, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (five MPs), another party based in UP, is said to have got closer to the Congress of late, while the JD-S (three MPs) does not want to be seen backing the BJP-led NDA.
