Hindus in Pakistan want full protection

The Hindu community in Pakistan has demanded complete protection for the minorities in this predominantly Muslim country.

Hindus protested in major cities after the killing of three Hindu brothers – all doctors by profession.

On Monday, unidentified attackers killed three brothers and a passerby in the Shikarpur district in interior Sindh. The slain doctors were identified as Dr Ajit Kumar and his two brothers, Dr Ashok Kumar and Dr Naresh Kumar.

Pakistan Hindu Council patron Dr Ramesh Kumar, a former member of Sindh Assembly, said that this was not the first time when gunmen attacked Hindu community.

“What is of concern is that the law enforcement agencies tend to support criminals involved in such acts”, he said.

Soon after the incident, President Asif Ali Zardari sought an immediate report about the attack and asked for immediate arrest of culprits and bringing them to justice.

He also instructed Member National Assembly (MNA) Ramesh Lal to proceed to the place of incident and convey his condolences to the bereaved families.

Hindu Sudhar Sabha Pakistan President Amar Nath Randhawa and All Pakistan Hindu Rights Movement Chairman Haroon Srabdiyal condemned the killings and appealed to President Asif Zardari, Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Interior Minister Rehman Malik and the Sindh government to take note of the incident.

The slaying of Hindus took place in front of a police station on a busy locality in district Shikarpur.
Police said personal enmity could be behind the attack. The police had arrested two suspects in the killings and were searching for other culprits.

School blown up

n Militants on Tuesday blew up with explosives a government run girls’ high school at Katlingdheri area of Pakistan’s Mardan district, police said. A police official said that Katlingdheri girls’ school, which was recently upgraded to a high school by the Khyber Pukhtunkhaw government, was blown up with explosives.
