The government on Wednesday approved a bill which provides for a fine of `1 crore for institutions which demand a capitation fee.
The Union Cabinet cleared amendments in the Prohibition of Unfair Practices in Technical Educational Institutions, Medical Educational Instit-utions and Universities Bill 2010, which also provides for a grievance redressal mechanism.
The bill, introduced in Lok Sabha in March 2010, was sent to parliamentary stan-ding committee on HRD, which gave its recommendations in May this year.
