Recently, a bunch of Americans from a top software firm visited the Technopark campus here.
Despite trying hard, most of them could not properly pronounce the word “Thiruvananthapuram”. They stumbled and stuttered and finally threw up their hands. “Some of them finally managed to say Thirupuram,” said Mr K.T. Roy, general secretary of the Capital City Development Forum.
The dilemma of the foreigners has prompted the forum to launch a campaign to restore the old name that the capital had discarded long ago — Trivandrum.

Mumbai, Nov. 27
The Navi Mumbai crime branch on Saturday arrested a 26-year-old call centre employee for allegedly murdering her friend’s grandmother earlier this month.
According to police sources, the body of a woman in her 60s was found near a lake in Sector 20, Koparkhairane, on November 18. Her head had been bashed in with a stone that was found lying near the body, which made it difficult to make out facial features. However, the police, while examining the body, found her name Meera Sitaram tattooed on her wrist.
Nasreen, who lived in the same area, was then summoned for questioning. The police became suspicious after Nasreen could not provide satisfactory replies.
