In the second phase of his Jansampark Yatra in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will cover five districts in the state which are considered strongholds of the Samajwadi Party.
Mr Rahul Gandhi will launch his yatra from Badaun on December 13, which will culminate in Kanpur (Rural) on December 17.
Sources said that the Congress general secretary will also be visiting Farrukhabad, Shahjahanabad and Kannauj during his five-day-long yatra.
Uttar Pradesh Samajwadi chief Akhilesh Yadav is a Lok Sabha MP from Kannauj, which is considered a traditional base of his party.
As part of the jansampark yatra, the Congress general secretary will be addressing party rallies and is also likley to meet people in his trademark style in which he visits the hamlets of the poor people.
Before beginning his second jansampark yatra, Mr Gandhi is also stated to hold review meeting with the party workers in Lucknow, which is expected to be a stock-taking exercise ahead of next year’s state Assembly elections.
While t
he UP Assembly elections are still about five months away, the Congress general secretary is tipped to cover most parts of the state in an attempt to shore up the base of the party in what is most likely to be a four-way contest among the ruling BSP, SP, Congress and the BJP.
