The Mamata Banerjee government on Friday raised the maximum age limit for candidates applying for state government jobs to 40 years. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee who attended the meeting, later described the decision as a “bold” and “revolutionary” step. She said that the previous Left Front government had increased the age-limit by five years from 32 years to 37 years.
“But the extension of the age limit was valid for five years only and it is going to expire on December 31 this year. This means that age-limit would have again come down to 32,” the chief minister added. She claimed that the erstwhile government had chalked out the five-year time-period imagining that they would retain power which remained a dream. “The number of unemployed in our state is massive. So we have raised the age-limit for the Group C and D employees to 40 years in the general category,” Ms Banerjee said.
In the SC/ST category, the age-limit has been increased from 42 year to 45 years.
