Authentic gems for real dancers

For any show and performance, dancers always have to dress up in the right manner to showcase their dance and portray their character well. To bring out the glamour and beauty in the costume many dancers accessories them with jewellery.

And most of the times the jewellery that the dancers use are artificial pieces that are quite blingy and affordable. But I know of a few dancers who believe in using real jewellery to accessories themselves during a performance. They believe the beauty that a piece of authentic jewellery brings on stage cannot be compared to artificial pieces. After talking to some of the authentic-jewellery obsessed dancers, I have made a few observations for all the dance lovers who wish to follow the same and get their jewels right.
Once a dancer has decided the look of the dance and the budget, the next step is to start looking for the right piece of jewellery to match the performance and the character you are portraying. With many options available today, there are a few things that you need to be aware of before making the expensive choice.

Gold Jewellery:
1) Ask for purity in terms of carats
2) Look for hallmark of the purity stamped on the piece of jewellery
3) Make sure you check the gold rate for the day. If you are ordering a set, make sure you get a written statement of the date of booking and the price of gold on that day.

Diamond Jewellery:
1)Diamond clarity is measured in terms of the impurities they contain: Vvs (very very slightly imperfect), Vs (very slightly imperfect), Si (slightly imperfect), If (internally flawless), and F (flawless)
Diamond colours are labelled from D to Z in descending order.
Ask for IGI certificates for the diamonds, remember manipulation is very common in India, so be very careful when you check this certificate.

Jadau Jewellery:
Normally, it is difficult to evaluate Kundan, Meena, Jadau jewellery.
1) Thick walled ornaments have lesser gold percentage. Thickness is used to pour more flux (lac) inside.
Look at the enamel work minutely. If the art is visible and engravings are prominent, there is a fair chance of a thick gold plate inside the gold jewellery, otherwise it may have thin gold plate resulting in lesser gold weight. Normally bright red colour of enamel shows higher purity. Even if the piece has enameling work in other colours brightness matters.
2) All coloured stones (rubies, sapphires, emeralds, tourmaline, etc.) have different evaluation and characteristics. However it does not affect the value of the whole price of the jewellery.
The prime factor ruling the Indian pattern of buying is trust and not guarantee, so the safest bet would be to go to a reputed jeweller you know.
Once you have bought what you like for your show, remember to take good care of it and keep it safe.
