A 21-year-old Delhi University student has been arrested for carrying out a theft of jewellery and cash at her uncle’s residence in central Delhi to help her boyfriend who was facing a financial crisis.
The accused, identified as Shruti Khosla, wanted to help her boyfriend, Rohit, 25, who works in BSES, to get his three sisters married off. The police said Shruti allegedly hatched a conspiracy with him and her relative’s servant Pradeep, 20, and burgled the house.
The victim Rajesh Puri had approached the police on January 16 and claimed that his house was burgled the day before when he and his wife were in Ambala to attend a marriage ceremony, additional commissioner of police (central) Devesh Srivastava said.
“During investigations, Shruti was questioned after her relative Rajesh Puri raised suspicion about her behaviour. She broke down and claimed that she wanted to help her boyfriend Rohit and thus hatched a conspiracy to commit theft at the house of her uncle,” ACP Srivastava said.
The three had scaled the wall of the house, cut the wire mesh of the door and then broke open the ventilator to open the door. “On entering into the house, they stole jewellery worth Rs 15 lakhs, cash amounting to Rs 10 lakhs, a laptop and silver ornaments. Jewellery worth Rs 15 lakhs, laptop, camera and Rs 2.8 lakhs in cash have been recovered,” ACP Srivastava said.
Shruti is doing her B.Com. from Delhi University through correspondence. She is also working in a private company at Gurgaon.
She is the adopted daughter of Jyoti Khosla, who is the aunt of the complainant’s wife. This is the second incident of a girl committing burglary with the help of her boyfriend in the capital this month.
