Republic Day was supposed to mark the release of Emraan Hashmi and Abhay Deol’s Shanghai, but a last-minute rethink has put the film’s release in limbo. “It is disappointing that Shanghai hasn’t released as planned,” said a veteran trade analyst. “With a topical theme like corruption, Republic Day would have been a great time indeed for Dibakar Banerjee’s ambitious new project to release.”
It seems it was the announcement of the release date of Karan Johar’s Agneepath that first led the Shanghai team to rethink their plans. But here’s the kicker: It seems no alternative date was worked out instead.
“The film’s shoot is complete but there are other factors to be looked into,” a crewmember revealed. “Emraan’s Jannat 2 and Raaz 3 are scheduled for May and August respectively. The Shanghai team has to now work around these months. It would be impossible for Emraan to promote three films back-to-back months. Abhay, however, has time to devote the film.”
We suggest August 15, Independ-ence Day. How about it Dibakar?
