It’s been nearly a decade since Mona Singh burst into our living rooms, braces et al, but audiences are yet to think of her as anything but Jassi, the gawky, geeky fashion assistant in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi. But as she embarks on another soap, Kya Huaa Tera Vaada, Mona would be dearly hoping the audience forgets her Jassi act.
“This show is a new concept for me. I have been working on non-fiction shows and game shows all this while, and this is my first fiction show in a long time,” she says. “I was unsure about working in a soap again, but Ekta (Kapoor) insisted I do it. I accepted without any discussions, and I’m glad I did so. It’s a beautiful show.”
Mona isn’t the only one making a comeback; Apara Mehta is also back, playing Mona’s mother-in-law. But, says Mona, Apara isn’t the typical saas. “Apara is an angel in the show. We don’t have too many petty fights, and the saas-bahu pair is shown to be friends,” she says.
What about her personal life? We heard rumours of Mona having found herself a nice groom to settle down with. “I haven’t yet planned anything about my marriage. I haven’t even found anybody yet. When I find myself a great groom, I will get married,” she says, denying the rumours outrightly.
