In a second major robbery in the city within a week, four persons intercepted a vehicle and robbed Rs21 lakh near Maduravoyal here.
The miscreants intercepted a private company's van, which was returning with the day's collection late last night and took away the booty after threatening the driver and two others, police said.
The vehicle, which belonged to a private company which supplies food and beverages, was intercepted on the highway near Maduravoyal, they said.
"We are investigating the case. Usually in cases like this, insiders are involved. We are enquiring in all angles," Joint Commissioner, K. Shankar, said.
The incident comes within a week after four persons robbed the Bank of Baroda branch near Perungudi of Rs19 lakh on January 23.
Police is yet to make any breakthrough in the bank robbery case, even after releasing the sketches of the suspects to public.
