[1]Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was summoned by the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday to be indicted on February 13 in a contempt-of-court case for failing to re-open corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari as ordered.
“After the preliminary hearing, we are satisfied that prima facie there is a case for further proceeding in the matter. Adjourned for February 13 for framing charges. The Prime Minister is required to remain present in the court,” justice Nasirul Mulk, heading a seven-member SC bench hearing the case, said.
The embattled Prime Minister faces disqualification in case he is convicted by the jury, a matter of great concern for the fragile government led by Pakistan People’s Party amid demands for snap polls by Opposition parties.
Gilani was first summoned by SC in January for alleged contempt of court after he failed to write a letter to the Swiss authorities to reopen corruption cases against Zardari, PPP co-chairman.
